Sold thak you.

A fine pair of antique Chinese kesi (kossu is Japanese term) tapestries of large size with gold and silver threads on silk. Theme is the woman warrior Mulan now made famous by Disney. It shows her receiving the sword from heaven and then fully outfitted for battle. In Chinese myths, supernatural qualities are attributed especially to the sword. War like themes are often woven into kesi tapestries, but this is the first one I've seen of Mulan. Figures in Kesi are often somewhat stiff, bu ...click for details

Pending sale.

The ji is a long table without upturned ends (such as the more common altar table). Ji's are normally found as small and low tables. The tall ones such as this one are rarer. This one is even more unusual due to the use of solid huanghuali wood (belonging to the family of rosewood), which was very expensive even in the 17-18th centuries, late Ming to early Ch'ing (Qing Ji's were normally made with other woods, such as ironwood). This one dates from mid-Ch'ing (Qing), about ...click for details

A fine Edo period (1603-1868) or earlier iron tsuba of a classic form and with mixed metal decorations in gold and silver. A wonderful butterfly with dark patinated wings and with gold highlights. $150.00

A nice set of antique Chinese export silver buckles. Each is a Chinese character enclosed within a horse shoe with lots of open work. They stand for good fortune and long life typically Chinese. One of the hallmarks I think reads "Kwan Tak". The Chinese are inveterate gamblers. Both Shanghai and Hongkong had thriving race courses. These are from the roaring 20's. These buckles bring an extra dose of luck! ...click for details

This is an antique covered sugar made of flint glass almost surely by Sandwich Glass in the early 19th century. It is in the traditional colonial pattern. Nice deep hollow stem. Rings like a bell. Very good condition no cracks or bad chips only a little roughness here and there. Some straw marks. Hard to find one with the cover intact. A must have for the antique American glass collection."

A striking 1839 London sterling teapot with ivory separators by Charles Fox, member of an important 19th century London goldsmith family. This is one of those graceful low bulbous designs with a very pronounced handle and spout which seems to soar, very stable. Nice floral & vine design. Good detail of design on the under side of the spout as well. Finial on the hinged top is attached by a wing nut. Full London marks on the bottom, date code (fancy "D") for 1839 (2nd year of Queen ...click for details
