A fine 19th century Chinese snuff bottle with a wonderful red & black swirl. This type of bottle came from the Shangtung area in the north. Well hollowed, good footrim and silky to the touch. Later stopper of red glass conforms well. Nice transparent effect in the light. 3" high. Very good condition. This is a well finished antique example.

A 19th century Qing dynasty transluscent Chinese white jade plaque or toggle with a carving of 2 fish on one side and an auspicious symbol on the other. Fish is a homophone for prosperity or plenty. In old China, a jade toggle on a silk cord is worn for good luck. 2.3 by 1.4 inches with nice old patina. Makes a great pendant or brooch. This is old jade with natural color, not recent import .

This is another example of a finely painted blue and white snuff bottle with wonderful details. It was done in the tradition of Chinese literary landscape paintings in which you will find an idealized micro-cosmos for the scholar. We have here a traveler waiting for the sampan to take him to a retreat in the mountains. A fine antique Canton export reticulated fruit basket with liner. Fine blue, orange peel, good hand painted detail. Great oval form. Approximately mid 19th century. 8.5" x 7.25 oval and 3.75" high. Very good condition save for one hairline as shown. Reticulation will stop the crack from propagating. Has a nice ring. Also a kiln bulge on the liner, but all glazed.

An early Northern Sung (11-12th c.) white glaze jar with cover. This is a shining white glaze over a greyish biscuit. A direct descendent of the earlier Tang white glaze from the northern kilns. Sung ware were prized for the form and glaze. Both vessel rigidity and glaze control benefited from the higher temperatures (1200 Centigrade) of the kilns.
