A Ming blue and white jar in surprisingly well preserved condition. it is used for oil or other utilitarian needs. It has a spout, 4 hanging "loops", and an intact flat cover with the character for "Yuan". (cover may be later match) There is a boy flying a kite on the side facing you if you are right handed. The reverse is a vigorous bamboo leaf motif. The entire imagery is drawn with strong and bold strokes. 17th century. Just super in such great condition. ...click for details

A rare iron RULER MACE (tie che) from 19th century China. The Chinese had numerous unusual and actually weird weapons and the mace group has more than its share. A mace with measure scales is quite rare. This is normally carried by an itinerant fortune teller (usually a taoist monk) travelling the jiang-hu (think of the wild west). A fine Guangxu period porcelain snuff bottle with a green dragon roiling amidst aubergine clouds on a yellow ground. The colors are known as "egg & spinach". The dragon fins and outline are hand incised on the bottle. Stopper top is an old green jadeite pebble of slight irregular shape, itself of some value and considerably better than contemporary jades.

A fine example of the high quality which can be achieved in blue and white snuff bottles. Fun decoration of a "hu-ren" (tribal man) groom presenting a donkey to a couple of Chinese in Ming dynasty garb. Wonderful expression on the groom and the donkey. Fine porcelain biscuit. Mark of Yongzhen but 19th century for sure. Nice carnelian top of good color and translucency. Very nice detail.

An early Republic of China- late Guangxu 19th century famille rose vase of stately height. There are a pair of roosters beneath full peonies. Obverse has a poem about the roosters symbolizing ambitious achievements, most likely a commemorative to the appointment to an official position. Dates to around 1900. Fine detail on the enamels, good color and thickness. Nice raised footrim, no marks.

A large late Ming blue and white jar with stylized dragon motif. The dragons are partly hidden within stylized waves. Mingyao with very good color and pattern.

About 9.5" high by 8" diameter. Good condition with no cracks or hairlines. Slight roughness to top & bottom rim.

An early Northern Sung (11-12th c.) white glaze jar with cover. This is a shining white glaze over a greyish biscuit. A direct descendent of the earlier Tang white glaze from the northern kilns. Sung ware were prized for the form and glaze. Both vessel rigidity and glaze control benefited from the higher temperatures (1200 Centigrade) of the kilns. Antique snuff bottle of "ice crystal" agate and with a bright carnelian top. The crystal pattern is quite pronounced with backlighting. Good dendrifical formation also. Circa 1900 Qing dynasty. No marks. Traces of snuff give faint fragrance.

2.5" high and 2" across. Nice weight in the hand. Very good condition with no flakes, scratches or lines. Nice old one.

About 9.5" tall. Fine condition with no chips cracks lines or repairs, 2 small flakes on the bottom rim not visible.
