It shows her receiving the sword from heaven and then fully outfitted for battle. In Chinese myths, supernatural qualities are attributed especially to the sword. War like themes are often woven into kesi tapestries, but this is the first one I've seen of Mulan. Figures in Kesi are often somewhat stiff, bu ...click for details

This one dates from mid-Ch'ing (Qing), about ...click for details

An early Northern Sung (11-12th c.) white glaze jar with cover. This is a shining white glaze over a greyish biscuit. A direct descendent of the earlier Tang white glaze from the northern kilns. Sung ware were prized for the form and glaze. Both vessel rigidity and glaze control benefited from the higher temperatures (1200 Centigrade) of the kilns. The glaze & biscuit on this vessel show the same characteristics as T'su Chou ware. Note the glaze on the inside of the footrim and the clean ...click for details
