Guangxu period pebble form snuff bottle so realistic that the Peking glass can be mistaken for a pebble. This is a nice old one with silky smooth surface from years of handling. Bottle is well hollowed, and in fact may have held opium at one time as the black residue in the neck suggests. Brownish color is not damage, color in the glass and some from inner residue. Good sized triangular bottom makes for stable standing. Nice cat's eye stopper with a bone spoon. ...click for details

This is a good example of the high quality which can be achieved in blue and white snuff bottles. The figure is of some virtuous official who became deified. He is standing on a cloud, a favorite method of travel for Chinese deities. The robe and hat are of the Ming dynasty. Nice brown top with a faux pearl and a well formed bone spoon. 3 1/3 inches high and good condition....

A Qianlong/ Jiaqing /Daoguang faux aventurine snuff bottle (cf note below). Black Peking Glass with lots of gold plus a few spots of red makes for a gorgeous snuff bottle. This is sometimes also known as gold aventurine glass or gold stone. In any case, this type of glass was introduced to the Qing (Ch'ing) court in the 18th century by Italian Jesuits. Fine Daoguan Tongzhi period blue and white cylindrical snuff bottle with a delicately painted monkey riding a galloping horse; a scene of the Monkey King from the Tales of the Western Journey. An older 19th century snuff bottle with rolled mouth rim with a circle and circles both outside and inside the footrim. Excellent quality biscuit and glaze. Nice shaped green top with finial.

An antique celadon jade snuff bottle fully hollowed out in rectangular form. Note the detail picture showing the light coming through the bottom of the snuff bottle looking down into the mouth. So thin it is almost a floater. Fully carved footrim. 18th century, Qianlong or early Jiaqing period celadon jade bottle. Later stopper finial is a cultured pearl over red composite.

Qianlong imperial workshop ruby red peking glass round snuff bottle with bats, chilongs and a "longevity" (shou) character medallion. All 3 are symbols of longevity. Fine Jiaqing Daoguang period ruby red snuff bottle, Peking glass likely from imperial workshops. It is exquisite with panels on all 4 sides and each is dimpled or concave, a very desirable feature. Exceptionally delicate thin footrim not found on later bottles. Carnelian top and silver spoon.
