This is another example of a finely painted blue and white snuff bottle with wonderful details. It was done in the tradition of Chinese literary landscape paintings in which you will find an idealized micro-cosmos for the scholar. We have here a traveler waiting for the sampan to take him to a retreat in the mountains. This transference of classic literary painting themes and techniques to porcelain began in the period 1880 to 1920s. And the quality of the details indeed point to that period.
