An exceptional Chinese scholar's object in carved bamboo with high relief. It shows a group of scholars in a bamboo grove, some around a go game in progress, and some enjoying a scroll. Several of the bamboo in the foreground are fully reticulated openwork. This can be seen on the 2 edges of the close up picture and also in the last picture. A covered box is rare, it can hold ink cakes or other small objects. It can even be used for a tea caddy.

A fine Chinese sweetmeat or candy container from the early turn of the century 1880-1920s. It is of cylindrical form with 2 stacking layers and a cover, on a pedestal. The cover has a beautiful water landscape with a cute fisherman in a boat with his pole. It is an idyllic Chinese scholar scene. Look at the exceptional detail in the close-up. Around the cylinder are lotus flowers and other auspicious symbols. No marks.
