A charming little Pembroke table by Beacon Hill, a respected old Boston maker of quality furniture in the early half of the century. The top is crotch mahogany as you can see from the close-up. Leaves drop down to save space and open to a graceful oval shape. Slender tapering legs Hepplewhite style. Delicate --- inlay --- along the top border and drawer bottom for that discreet decorative detail. A center drawer opens and the old manufacturer's tag is along the side.

An original hand colored Currier & Ives lithograph "Moonlight in Fairyland". A rare scene for Currier & Ives, showing a winged fairy waving her magic wand in a lily pond and under a full moon. Very idyllic.
Image 9" by 13", in a double matt and an old frame, 17" by 21". Slightest hint of stain, good color.
Nice unusual Currier & Ives.

A nice pair of 19th century Chinese famille rose wine cups. Each cup bears auspicious symbols, a pair of fish for prosperity and other objects from the scholar's study. These fish are simply drawn and fun. These cups are actually quite popular in the study where friends would drink and compete in poetry couplets for example.
2.5" high and 2.25" diameter. One cup has inside repair with hairline showing (see picture). Overglazed red marks of Tongzhi reign, 1862-1874, and of ...click for details

A wonderful set of 3 nesting bowls in a classic Chinese famille rose palette. The design is that of a crowing rooster perched on a strange Suzhou scholar's rock and amidst a garden of spring peonies. Everything beautifully and meticulously hand painted with super detail. About 1880-1920, very fine white and transluscent porcelain. Private mark (see below) in red overglaze. This is a known mark of the period. Also a Chinese export wax seal (see below).

A cheerful set of 6 bright yellow Shelley 7.5" English bone china plates. All with an early Shelley mark. If you are interested in the transition of Foley-Shelley back stamps this is the mark which was occasionally used by Foley around 1910-1912 when they exported to the U.S. as Shelley. (Wileman Foley, which pre-dated Shelley, exported to the U.S. under the trade name Shelley while they used the Wileman-Foley or Foley backstamp in England. Confusing!)
