This is an antique covered sugar made of flint glass almost surely by Sandwich Glass in the early 19th century. It is in the traditional colonial pattern. Nice deep hollow stem. Rings like a bell. Very good condition no cracks or bad chips only a little roughness here and there. Some straw marks. Hard to find one with the cover intact. A must have for the antique American glass collection."

A striking 1839 London sterling teapot with ivory separators by Charles Fox, member of an important 19th century London goldsmith family. This is one of those graceful low bulbous designs with a very pronounced handle and spout which seems to soar, very stable. Nice floral & vine design. Good detail of design on the under side of the spout as well. Finial on the hinged top is attached by a wing nut. A wonderful little repousse dish with a center scene of a wood cutter and a windmill in the background. Dutch 833 silver standard certified by the lion mark with a "2" underneath. Looks like date code for 1907 as indicated by the little circle mark with a very fancy "L' in script (Tardy's "Poincoins d"argent", pp 321 & 324. Also maker's marks. Nice sharp repousse work.

A fine Victorian period sterling & ivory cheese scoop, or perhaps marrow scoop. Long ivory handle with a generous sterling scoop. Wonderful patina. London marks for 1878 and maker is George Adams of Chawner & Co., major spoon maker of the era.

This is a fine Edo period (1603-1868)iron tsuba of a classic form . Flower & petal lacquer design on gold and iron, trimmed in brass. This one is both simple & elegant! The blossom in front is a kind of plum, (katsura). A few spare leaves falling on the back. Wonderful use of colors at once simple, bold and subtle. Lacquered tsubas are rare.

清陈浩画水仙 A fine Chinese literati painting on paper of narcissus blossoms by Qing (Ch'ing) dynasty artist Chen Hao. He is listed in the Chinese Artists Dictionary as working during the last Ch'ing (Qing) dynasty (1644-1911). An antique Japanese satsuma tazza (compote) of rare and vigorous form. It has a scalloped bowl rather like chrysanthemum petals. The broad pedestal is pierced. It was hand thrown and slightly asymmetrical, having its own aethestic appeal. The Japanese appreciated asymmetry. No marks. A porcelain snuff bottle with exceptionally fine detail in the 2 landscape scenes. This type of hairline thin decoration is known as grisaille and literally painted with a brush of single hair. A basic concept in Chinese landscape painting is that it encapsulate a world. These small paintings certainly succeeded. A light touch of some red on one side, very sophisticated color usage.
