Antique Silver Fish Knife -German Armorial

A wonderful lively solid 800 silver German fish knife with both pierced and chased work. There is a happy (!) smiling fish in the center. Coat of arms at the top of the handle. A kind web expert says that this is the coat of arms for "Matuschka von Troppolczan" of Bohemia. Thank you.

German mark as shown... legend "Gebr. Friedlander" followed by a mark & "800" and then 2 more German touchmarks. This is from the German region of Friedland near the sea. About 100 years. 12" long; a hefty serving piece. A small dimple at the armorial. No other dings or creases. Very good condition; polishes beautifully with nice patina.

This is a gorgeous and fun fish knife from a place where they know about fish. Great for the holiday table and silver makes great wedding or graduation gifts.

A kind reader wrote: "... the firm Gebr. Friedl%nder was an old and well known jewelry firm in Berlin located on the fashionable street Unter den Linden. The firm was founded by Zadek Levin Friedlander. After the founder died in 1829 his sons, Theodor and Siegesmund took over the firm and began using the name Gebr. Fiedl%nder. A short history of the firm is in the archives of teh Leo Baeck Institute in NYC." Thank you David.
