Pair Nabeshima Plates - Wild Rose Blossoms
A fine pair of Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912)Nabeshima plates. A single large blossom (looks like a big wild rose or maybe a hibiscus) on each plate. Typical Nabeshima flat rims. The fine Nabeshima plates usually have decorations on the outside, and this pair has stylized floral theme. Wonderful saphire blues shading from dark to light very difficult to achieve in the kiln.

7" diameter. No chips hairlines or repairs. Very good condition.

Nabeshima is about the best of Imari ware. Beginning in the early 18th century these kilns produced only for the local daimyo clan (feudal lord) under their patronage with exacting standards. The tradition continues to the present. The decoration tends to be simple and asymmetric yet with a fine balance. This pair is about 100 years old. Well worth considering for your collection.
