Tall Qing Era Dragon Altar Candle Stick

A Qing (Ch'ing) dynasty gold gilt candle holder with a wonderfully carved dragon with a phoenix below. The dragon head is fully in relief and the scales are also meticulously done. Carved cloud motif above the head just below the holder. Reticulated open work at the dragon head and phoenix legs. Gold leaf on black enamel coiling dragon on the lower portion of the candle stick including the cirular base.

29" tall carvings in very good condition, a little dusty and still some old candle wax sticking.

Note. This type of tall oversized candlestick was used in temples around the altar. The strong dragon motif in this one suggests it was from a temple of the Dragon God (Lung Miao, or dragon temple).

A wonderful relic of old China not easily found today.
