This is a fun jade archer's ring from the Chinese Ch'ing (Qing) dynasty mid to late 18th century. Pretty high quality jade of a slightly greenish hue a trace of mottling not dyed or treated. And it has translucency as you might surmise from the picures. There is an incised design of a pair of facing carp, seem quite happy enjoying themselves amidst the aquatic plants. As a bonus someone added a silver wire loop to use it like a pendant if you wish a piece of old jewelry! If you are a purist the wire loop can simply be taken off. While this is an archer's ring for protecting the thumb and also made into a pendant, ladies sometimes use it as a hair ornament (holding a pony tail for example).
1" high x 1.2" diameter. No chips or cracks. Very good condition. An nicely decorated old genuine jade archer ring is hard to find today. |
