A dramatic black polychrome jardiniere or fish bowl with a wonderful design of birds amidst plum blossoms. This is a recurring Chinese theme of vigor in winter. No marks, and an orange peel effect.
About 15" across at the wise rim and 13.5" high. Very good condition save for a tight and faint interior star. Rings well. Notes: Famille noire originated in the 1700s Kangxi era and those often possess a pronounced rainbow shimmer. Some of the best revivals were done in the 19th century and this is a fine example. There are green felt squares at the bottom & top rims. Light tan patches below the inner rim are old stains. |
