A fun famille rose teapot following the form of old Chinese wine pots. Wonderful decoration of figural scenes from a heavenly banquet given by the Queen of the West for the multitude of superior beings in Chinese buddhist mythology. The one slouched over in his cups with bare chest is the god of longevity also symbolized by his favorite peaches in the bowl. Gold highlights. No marks on the glazed bottom. From the Daoguang (1821-1850) period. Pretty early form with Chinese theme decorations.
6.5 inches high and 3.6 diameter. Fine condition with only one tiny chip to the underside of the lid not readily visible. A little wear to the gold gild. Lovely early transitional wine pouring form with traditional Chinese theme. |
