Set of 18-19th century Chinese export famille rose armorial dishes in a nest of 3. Each bears the golden coat of arms of the East India Company with the pair of cute facing lions. Nice orange peel effect on fine quality porcelain.
The East India Company was established in 1600 as a monopoly company by act of Parliament. It was the earliest incorporated companies in the world and at one time it consituted 40% of world trade. It's monopoly was dissolved in 1873. The company has a unique place in history for all kinds of reasons. Jardines Group in Hongkong (`}ams) is one of the remaining successors today. Dimensions: 10.3", 9.4" and 8.5" diameter. Fine condition with no chips lines or repairs; very slight rubbing of gold here and there, about 95% intact. Very decorative. |
